Can you find a specific fruit by taste? What about smell? Let’s see how good your fruit senses are with this sweet and fruity activity.
You’ll Need:
- Different types of fruit
- Cups
- Tinfoil
- Fork
- Blindfold (optional)
For the first part of the activity, test if you can guess fruit just by your sense of smell!
Part 1 Set-Up
Cut up a few different kinds of fruit. Place a piece of each into its own cup and cover each with tinfoil. Poke holes in the tinfoil with a fork. Then arrange the cups in a row in front of your child.
Part 1 Test
Now, ask your child to find a specific fruit, such as “find the cup with apple.” They must pick up the cups one at a time and sniff through the holes in the foil to determine which cup has an apple piece. Repeat with the other fruit options.
For the second part of the activity, test if you can find fruit by your sense of taste.
Part 2 Set-Up
Now, have your child close their eyes or use a blindfold to cover their eyes. Once they’re eyes are shielded, remove the foil from the cups and mix all the cups up in the row.
Part 2 Test
Ask your child to find a specific fruit, such as “find the cup with apple” by taste this time. They can now use the fork to pick out the piece of fruit from each cup and lick it to determine which cup has that fruit. Repeat with the other fruit options.
Check with kids at the end if it was easier to tell fruit by smell or taste! Now, let the parents have a turn!
