For Poem in Your Pocket Day, there are no rules as to what kind of poem you might store in your pocket. The goal is to simply carry a poem with you to share with others, as we all join together to celebrate the magic of poetry on this day.
Follow these instructions to make your own “Poem in Your Pocket” craft to share the joy of poetry with someone special.
You’ll Need:
- Construction Paper
- Scissors
- Glue/tape
- Markers
- Square of white paper
Steps:
1. Cut two pocket shapes out of construction paper.
2. Glue or tape the bottom and side edges of your two pockets together, leaving the top open.
3. Decorate your pocket with markers or stickers and write “Happy Poem In Your Pocket Day” on the front.
4. Cut a square piece of white paper to fit inside the pocket.
5. Write a poem on the white paper. Find tips for writing poems with kids here.
