Get Kids Moving with the Colors of the Rainbow

Get out that leprechaun-inspired energy this St. Patrick’s Day with this easy movement game, incorporating fun Ireland-themed movements.

You’ll Need

• White Paper
• Dice Template
• Scissors
• Crayons
• Glue

Set-Up

First, draw the dice template below on a piece of paper. Then cut along the solid lines.

Color one of the six squares each of the following colors: red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. Color the remaining square a rainbow of all the colors, as shown here.

To put your dice together, fold along the dotted lines. This will begin to form a cube. Glue the flaps to the inside of the cube to complete it.

To Play

For the activity, take turns rolling the dice and doing the movement that corresponds with the color you rolled as follows:

• Red – Rainbow Hop: Jump side to side like you are hopping over a rainbow
• Orange – Leprechaun Leap: Leap like a happy little leprechaun 
• Yellow – Pot O’ Gold: Squat down and pretend to lift up a heavy pot of gold
• Green – Irish Jig: Do your own Irish jig like this one
• Blue – Swim Around the Emerald Isle: Move your arms in a swimming motion and quickly walk around in a circle 

When a Rainbow is rolled, everyone must shout “Lucky Rainbow!” Then whoever rolled the dice will pick any movement for everyone to do.
