This simple activity will help your family make their own puzzles with easy materials from home. When kids make their own puzzles, they’re guaranteed to love them — and will probably even use them again and again![/ultimate_ctation][vc_column_text]

Materials Needed:

  • Pictures
  • Scissors
  • Work Surface

Just follow these three easy steps to make your own puzzles.

Step 1: Draw or print out several pictures. Use pictures with a single large graphic for younger children and pictures that show full scenes for older children to present a greater challenge to put back together.

Step 2: Cut up your pictures. For younger children, simply cut each picture into eighths or quarters. For older children, experiment with oddly shaped cuts for pieces that resemble a real jigsaw puzzle.

Step 3: Lay out or mix up the pieces. Lay out all the pieces for one picture at a time and let kids put the pieces back together like a puzzle. Alternatively, you could mix up pieces for multiple pictures so kids have to sort the pieces for the pictures as they complete each puzzle.

We hope you enjoy your homemade jigsaw puzzles for National Puzzle Day!
