Are you ready to help your kids lift themselves up while striving to reach their goals every day? Then the “My Feel Good Journal” for kids is soon to be your new favorite parenting tool![/ultimate_ctation][vc_column_text]
The “My Feel Good Journal” is the perfect tool for helping children master self-reflection, practice goal-setting, and build confidence. Since educational programs in public schools don’t often teach the socio-emotional skills needed for success, fun activities like this are a great way to do it at home. It is an easy and fun activity for children to incorporate into a bedtime routine or for homeschooled kids to use in their morning homeschool curriculum. Let’s dive into creating the “My Feel Good Journal” together!
Materials Needed:
- A journal or notebook (Let your child pick their favorite color or design!)
- Writing tool of your child’s choice
Directions:
- Introduce Journaling: When parents take their child to choose their journal, they should explain that the Feel Good Journal is going to be a special space for kids to record achievements they are proud of, as well as a safe space to acknowledge how they might like to grow and change. Tell them they will also be able to plan goals for school, homeschool, hobbies, or personal growth.
- Create A Cozy Journaling Corner: Find a corner of your child’s bedroom, the living room, or other relaxed space where your child will be able to feel comfortable and find inspiration for their daily journaling. If possible, add some pictures or props like inspirational posters and comfy pillows to make the space feel even more welcoming.
- What to Write: Each day, have your child respond to the following prompts. Depending on children’s ages, parents may need to help them write in their journal.
- Write down one thing you’re proud of from the day. It could be anything from mastering a new concept in school to being kind to a friend.
- Write down one goal you are working toward. This could be a big goal like “make the soccer team” or a small goal like improving a skill, breaking a habit, or anything else they notice that needs improving
- Write down one thing you are doing right to work toward your goal, i.e. working with a tutor to get better at math.
- Write down one thing you could improve on to work toward your goal, i.e. investing more time on math homework.
- Add Personality: Allow your child to add personality to their journal pages by decorating each one with doodles, stickers, or even photos that represent their achievements and goals. The more they personalize their pages, the more they will remember their reflections and be excited to engage with them.
- Encourage Consistency: Remind your child to journal every day for the best results with their progress. Older kids might be encouraged to journal in the morning and evening. You could even keep your own Feel Good Journal and journal together each day.
- Celebrate Achievements: At the end of each week, let your child share any achievements or goals they’d like to from their Feel Good Journal. Celebrate their wins with high-fives, hugs, or a pizza party! Help support them in the areas they’ve identified as needing improvement and remind them that self-growth happens for everyone at their own pace.
Keep in mind that the “My Feel Good Journal” isn’t just about documenting achievements but about fostering self-awareness and courage in your child. This is a great tool for homeschool parents, homeschool groups, public school, and all parents to use to help build confidence in your kids. Help them celebrate successes and embrace opportunities for growth so that they always believe in their abilities. Keep up the fantastic work!
