What You’ll Need:

  • Paper Plate
  • Crayons
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • Gluestick
  • Paper Clip

How to Make the Clock:

  1. First, allow your child to color the edges of the paper plate with crayons. Let children get creative and decorate around the clock however they’d like. If children want to color the center, make sure this is one color so it won’t be distracting when kids are trying to tell time.
  2. Next, cut 12 small circles out of paper and label them 1-12 using a marker. These will go around the edge of the plate as the clock numbers.
  3. Use a glue stick to place the numbers around the plate in order. This step will help kids practice recognizing numbers and counting while also getting them familiar with a clock face to help prepare them to tell time.
  4. Then, cut one long arrow and one short arrow out of paper to use as clock hands.
  5. Secure the arrows to the center of the paper plate by sticking a paper clip through both arrows and into the plate. Make sure the arrows are able to swivel so kids can adjust them to different times.

Game Play:

For this game, you’ll need your clock craft and a timer.

Start by having your child hold the clock. Name different daily activities you and your family do throughout the day such as brushing your teeth,  getting on the school bus, going to hockey practice, eating dinner, etc. For each activity, have kids set the clock to that time. Then switch roles and let them pick activities as you set the time and they will check if your time is correct.

To make the game more challenging and competitive, set the timer for 30 seconds for each activity so kids have to beat the clock while setting the time.
