What good is breakfast in bed if Mom has to help cook? Or a brunch outing that Mom had to make the reservations for herself? Make this Mother’s Day actually about Mom by having kids celebrate her with activities they can organize all by themselves.
Here are some simple ideas that are easy for kids to plan and will create lasting Mother’s Day memories!
1. Movies in Bed
Breakfast is overrated and tricky for kids to prepare by themselves. But they can easily put together a bowl of pre-popped popcorn and candy as they set up a cozy movie marathon of mom’s favorite movies.
2. iPhone Family Photoshoot
Kids can organize a surprise family photoshoot with Mom right in the backyard or maybe at her favorite scenic spot! They can select props and poses that show how much they love her, then lean an iPhone against a stable surface and snap away!
3. Backyard Picnic
Instead of an elaborate meal, kids can easily prepare sandwiches like PB&J or ham and cheese. Then they can pack them in a basket or bag, set up a blanket, and prepare a lovely picnic in the yard. Throw in a ball or board game, and let the fun last for hours!
4. At Home Spa Day
Let kids pamper Mom with their own version of a spa day. They could choose some of Mom’s favorite at-home remedies like face creams, lotions, and more to create a relaxing experience. Or they could devise a few self-care activities like a dance workout, meditation, etc. to lead Mom through.
5. Do More Chores
Kids can let Mom choose her own way to relax as they tackle extra chores that Mom usually takes care of, such as sweeping, doing the dishes, or organizing the fridge! They can choose which chores to do on their own and surprise Mom at the end of the day with what they got done.
6. Play Mom Jeopardy
Have kids create prompts and responses about their love for Mom such as ‘My favorite memory with mom is…’ After they make a list of questions, they can sit Mom down to play their game and see how many answers she guesses correctly. At the end, kids can have a special prize or gift waiting for Mom.
7. Perform a Tribute Show
Let kids take some time coming up with talents or skits to perform in honor of Mom. When they’re all prepared, they can put on a talent show of sorts where they sing her favorite song, do a funny impression of her, etc.
8. Give Mom a Break Game
This can be an all-day game where the objective is to give Mom as much rest as possible. Keep a scoreboard that tracks how many times different family members ask Mom for something on Mother’s Day. All players can start with 100 points, but every time they disturb Mom’s relaxation, they lose a point. The person with the lowest score has to cook dinner!
Now kids can celebrate Mom with little planning but lots of fun to honor the hard work she does all year round with these easy and stress-free plans.
