Ingredients:
- 1 box of your favorite cake mix
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 3-4 Tbsp. heavy cream
- 2-3 drops food dye
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9” circle pan with non-stick spray. Set aside.
- Prepare the box cake mix in a medium size bowl. Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and fill half way then bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the cake is completely set in the center.
- Allow the cake to cool completely before decorating.
- In the meantime, we can prepare the buttercream. To make the buttercream, cream together the butter and confectioner’s sugar while slowly adding in the heavy cream 1 Tbsp. at a time until the buttercream is nice and smooth and there are no more lumps.
- Dye your buttercream depending on whichever colors you want for your butterfly.
- Once the cake is cooled, cut the cake in half. Then on the straight side of each half of the circle, cut out a small triangle.
- Place the half circles back to back. Use the video above to help guide you through these steps.
- Spread the buttercream on the entire outside of the cake until it is completely smooth. Use the other colors to add details to the butterfly. Use an offset spatula to help smooth the buttercream details.
- Enjoy!
