[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]How have you been occupying your summer in the midst of the pandemic?
While we’re facing unprecedented times, a positive aspect has been that families have had a chance to spend time together – something that often gets lost in the bustle of work, school, and other responsibilities.
However, even in the midst of the pandemic, parents need creative ways to keep their children engaged and occupied. Now that summer has come along and school is on break, parents need something else to engage their children while keeping the family safe from potential infection.
In this regard, Baketivity partnered with the Wall Street Journal to promote our virtual baking camp through the Camp in a Box campaign. Members of WSJ+ get to save 25 percent off the price of the Baketivity virtual summer camp package.
You too can spend a few hours every week to teach your children their way around the kitchen with this baking summer camp. You can trust that your children will be more than ready to participate: anyone would when there are delightful treats to enjoy at the end of the class – talk about delicious learning![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”18225″ img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_custom_heading text=”Baketivity Baking Summer Camp” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]The Baketivity virtual camp for kids is an online camp made to teach your young bakers-in-training how to bake different desserts. They have an opportunity to learn new skills in fun learning, try out baker-approved tips, and discover the inside secrets to great baking. Cooking and baking are skills that prepare your young ones for self-sufficiency, and Baketivity has found a way to make it fun.
Children don’t learn the way adults do, and sometimes, as adults, we don’t have the patience or know-how to communicate in their language. Instead, we become frustrated, forgetting that all the things we know today we learned from someone at a young age.
This Baketivity online camp brings camp right into your homes, giving you delightful boxes to bake, play, and fill the summer boredom with fun but purposeful activities. Every camper gets four boxes delivered weekly, each with a themed baking kit that makes one kind of dessert.
What’s in the Box?
Every kit is made to build on the skills the children learned the previous week so that they keep practicing and getting better as complexity increases. The recipes and techniques are made specially to challenge your budding baker without being so difficult that it turn discouraging to try.
Baketivity’s kids baking summer camp boxes come complete with all you need for an easy and fun-filled baking lesson with the children. You’ll find:
- Hands-on instructions with colorful graphics for kids of all ages to understand
- Complete list of pre-measured dry ingredients in heat-sealed packaging to preserve freshness
- Complete shopping list for wet ingredients needed
- List of utensils and other materials needed for easy assembly
- Behind the scenes science tips to infuse the baking lesson with a little more learning
- A free Bake-A-Camp t-shirt for your budding chef
Children from ages 3-12 have all the tools to bake like pros. Younger children (8 years and younger) will need help from an adult – but remember to leave all of the easy things to them according to their age.
So, what will your children learn how to bake during our special baking camp this year?[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”20981″ img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_custom_heading text=”Week 1 – Box 1: Chocolate Caramel Nuggets Kit” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]This week features an introduction to the summer online camp, and the kids will get started with a very simple beginner’s recipe – chocolate caramel nuggets. This simple recipe will teach your kids new baking techniques and set them up for the next lessons.
Chocolate caramel nuggets are an incredibly delightful and easy-to-make dessert option for kids. You can put your dough in the fridge for a half-hour or so before cooking for softer cookies, or you can bake right after mixing for crunchier ones.
Remember to roll the dough thin so that the oven heat melts the chocolate caramel inside. Don’t worry about any cracking in the dough – just seal the big ones and the result will still be delightful. Get ready to enjoy the easiest dessert in this Bake-A-Camp with your young bakers.
You can dust with castor sugar and cocoa powder for that extra wow once they’re ready. Remember, perfection is not the goal; learning is![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”20992″ img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_custom_heading text=”Week 2 – Box 2: Cream Puffs Kit” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]The second recipe will feature something more advanced, an intermediate dish that shows off some of the skills learned when making the chocolate nuggets.
Cream puffs are an excellent intermediate recipe, and the adult should remain close by because of the stove-top and oven parts of the recipe. Preparation is slightly more complex, and the results are very tasty. Kids above 11 may be able to work on this recipe with minimal supervision depending on how early they learned baking.
There’s a lot of stirring, so your younger ones can carefully help with that. If you feel too nervous, they can just watch from a safe distance.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”21000″ img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_custom_heading text=”Week 3 – Box 3: Chocolate Log Kit” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]This week’s recipe is just a little harder than the others – the chocolate Yule log. In this lesson, there are plenty of opportunities to test whether your little chef has been practicing. They will also learn a little about why that happens when they bake.
It’s nowhere near Christmas time, but this recipe sets up your young chef to help you on your next Christmas Even Yule log project. Prepare to have your sock knocked right off with a soft, spongy, cake with delicious filling – nobody ever said no to chocolate on chocolate on chocolate.
The log-like exterior will put your camper’s skills to the test; time to learn how to make your desserts look as good as they taste. Seen from the side, the spiral or concentric circles of the filling mimic the rings of a tree – which is where the dessert gets its name. Feel free to step in and help where your little chef is stuck![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”21004″ img_size=”full” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_custom_heading text=”Week 4 – Box 4: Whipped Gourmet Cupcake Kit” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Now that you have a master baker in your house, it’s time to bring out all the new techniques in a recipe that creates attractive and delicious results – the look is almost as important as the feeling when you’re baking!
Cupcakes are a must-know for every baker and they have a ton of customization and decorating options. This is why we saved this special dessert for last. By now, your little baker will be more confident in their kitchen skills. They will know a little science behind the baking, and the importance of sticking to the recipe.
After fishing your perfect set of cupcakes from the oven, give them a few minutes to cool before topping them with whipped cream for decoration. Once the cakes are nice and cool, allow your young chef to delight you with their creation. Remember to take pictures before digging in, of course.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Final Thoughts” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]The Summer 2020 Bake-A-Camp Baking kit is available at out Baketivity shop.
