Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away! Here are a few tips for preparing a special and stress-free Turkey Day with kids.

1. Plan turkey time around littles

Aim to disrupt your child’s schedule as little as possible. Some families eat dinner early in the day, but try to plan your big meal for later in the day so kids can fit in their other meals or snack times and of course their nap times too!

2. Set realistic expectations

Accept that kids might not like the food or may get cranky stepping out of their routine. Be prepared with backup snacks and distractions. How can you distract children at a big family party? Check out the next tip about entertaining kids!

3. Keep kids entertained

Kids will need more stimulation than just conversation around the dinner table, so be sure to bring toys, books, and plan some games. You can have kids draw pictures of what they’re grateful for and hang them around the room. They can ask guests and draw them pictures too. Need more? Try this fun Turkey Day scavenger hunt.

4. Make kids your little helpers

By bringing kids in on the action, you keep them involved and engaged. This means less chance of them getting bored and cranky. Kids can help set the style, not just the table. Let them add their own touch such as paper roll napkin holders or handmade nametags. They can also help prepare some of the easier dishes and greet guests!

5. Turn dessert into an activity not just the final course

In the spirit of keeping kids entertained, turn your final course into an exciting activity for them. Let kids decorate cookies with icing and toppings or use whipped cream to make funny faces on pie slices!

There are tons of ways to make Thanksgiving Day fun for the whole family! We hope these ideas make your celebration a special day for all.
