Here are the top 5 flowers to use in your baked goods for bonus flavor and aesthetics.

1. Roses

The fruity flavor of rose is often used to complement flavors in jam and sweet treats. Rose petals can be seen atop doughnuts in modern doughnut shops. A little can add a whole lot of flavor!

2. Violas

These were traditionally sugared or candied—like nuts and yams. Often times, violas will be scattered on top of or sprinkled around desserts for a lovely touch of color. You are also likely to find them on top of drinks and chocolate in modern-day bakeries.

3. Chamomile

Chamomile flowers are popular in tea, but they can also be used to infuse baking ingredients like butter and milk. This brings a lovely floral sweetness to your cakes, cookies, and other desserts.

4. Lavender

Lavender can be mixed right into your cake, bread, and cookie batter to bring a unique taste and sweet scent to your shortbread cookies, cake rolls, and more! Lavender is also often infused into sweet glazes, syrups, and honey. This flower especially pairs well with lemon-flavored treats.

5. Anise Hyssop

This flower looks similar to lavender but has a special licorice taste! Many people enjoy sprinkling this on top of ice cream or tarts or to flavor jelly. But its seeds can also be added to cookie, muffin, and bread batter—yum!
