So why not practice it in the kitchen![/ultimate_ctation][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Rhyming might not seem as obvious a skill to teach in the kitchen as stirring or mixing, but it can definitely find its place in the heart of the home. Check out these fun ideas to work on rhyming with kids in the kitchen!
1. Ingredient Rhyming
It’s easy to turn this into a sweet little game with kids while baking. Choose any number of ingredients and challenge kids to come up with three rhyming words for them. For example, if you chose flour, kids could say: hour, sour, and power as rhymes. You can allow kids to make up rhyming words for ingredients too, as this still helps them practice sound and concentration, along with creativity!
2. Find Rhymes in Recipes
For a fun activity while you’re waiting for what’s in the oven, allow children to turn the pages of recipe books and search for words that rhyme. Perhaps they’ll come across “make” and “cake” or “icing” and “dicing”. Let this be a fun scavenger hunt through cookbooks for kids.
3. Talk in Rhyme
This is the hardest activity on the list but could be quite fun for older children and eager little ones. Think of “The Night Before Christmas” and how each sentence rhymes at the end. While you’re baking with kids, see if you can communicate with sentences that rhyme like this for as long as you’d like, or as long as you can keep it up!
