Ingredients For the Cookie:
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Ingredients For the Frosting:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3-4 Tbsp. heavy whipping cream
- A drop of your desired food dye (optional)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350° F. and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium sized bowl whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder and cream of tartar until evenly combined then set aside.
- In a separate bowl cream the butter na sugar together using a whisk until nice and smooth.
- Add in the egg and vanilla to the butter mixture and continue to whisk until all of the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet and combine until a nice soft cookie dough has formed.
- Scoop the cookies into 2 1/2 Tbsp. sized balls then place on your prepared cookie sheet. Using the palm of your hand gently flatten the cookie dough ball slightly but not all the way.
- Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown on the edges.
- While the cookies bake, prepare the frosting.
- Whisk together the butter and the sugar until combined. Slowly add in the vanilla and heavy cream until the frosting is nice and smooth.
- If you wish to use food dye, add a drop in until you reach the desired color.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating.
- To decorate, add a dollop of frosting on top of the cookie then use a butterknife or offset spatula to spread evenly.
- Top the cookies with sprinkles and enjoy! :)
