What is a Flower Cookie?
Now, now, don’t get your cinnamons synonyms confused. It says flower, not flour. (Although, the cookies do include flour in them.)
Flower cookies are cookies shaped like the beautiful, natural décor that the world has been graced with- flowers.
There are countless ways of making flower cookies, because there are countless beautiful flowers available in this world.
The base of the Pretty Petals Flower Cookies are sugar cookies. The cookies are decorated with sugar crystals in various colors, to make them even more summier (if that’s even possible!).
There’s another answer for “What is a Flower Cookie?”.
Flower cookies can also be cookies that are decorated with flowers- whether real, dried, or edible.
A very popular flower that is used a lot for decorating cookies is the Pansy flower. Pansy flowers are edible flowers that come in the following hues: yellow, gold, purple, violet, red, and some others.
The best way to use pansies on cookies or cakes is by pressing them first. This will flatten them and dry them out, so that they will look their best on your cookie or cake.
How To Make Flower Cookies
Floral cookies are always in style to make and enjoy. In the wintertime, flower cookies are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s faces, and to remind them that “hey, there’ll be an end to this winter and summer will come!”
There are multiple ways to make flower cookies. Each one is unique and creates a unique confection.
One way is by creating flower shaped sugar cookies and decorating the top.
You can decorate it by using royal icing to make beautiful, intricate designs. You can also use frosting to decorate the cookies in a 3-D, poppy way.
Another way is by sticking chocolates and candies to the top of the cookies. This can be done by dipping the bottom part of the chocolates and candies into marshmallow fluff or melted chocolate, and then quickly applying it to the cookie.
Yet another way is by placing a layer of fondant onto the cookies and carving it out so that it fits perfectly. You can then create pretty designs with the remaining fondant and stick it onto the cookie.
To make more advanced flower cookies, you’ll need to work a bit harder- but it’s worth it!
Firstly, you can create your own rose water to enhance the cookies taste with a real flower taste.
Then, you can use dried or even fresh edible flowers to decorate the top of the cookie with.
Some typical edible flowers to use are: Cornflowers, Calendula flowers, roses, lilac petals, daisies and pansies.
You’ll want to wash them and inspect them before you use them. Be sure to pick the prettiest ones with no holes or worms.
In order to have the prettiest flowers on your cookies or cake, it is recommended to press your flowers.
If you have time, the best way to do it is to place each flower in a separate page of a heavy book (such as a telephone book) and to close the cover. The pressure will flatten and press the flowers. For optimal results, leave the flowers in the book for 7-10 days.
If you’re pressed for time (get the pun?), there’s a quick way to press your flowers. Take a piece of paper and fold it in half. Place the flowers you want to use on one half of the paper. Place a piece of paper towel on top of it, and then fold over the other half of the paper.
Place this into the microwave with a heavy microwave-safe casserole bowl on top for 30-60 seconds. You can now peel the pressed flowers off the paper and voila! pressed flowers.

How To Keep Your Homemade Cookies Fresh Longer
What happens when you’re (gasp!) left over with homemade cookies and you want to keep them fresh?
There are different techniques available to give your cookies the longest shelf time. The point of them all is the same- to keep air away from them as much as possible.
One way to do this is by wrapping each cookie individually. This way, you take out the cookies as you need them without exposing all the cookies to air. It may sound time-consuming but it works.
You can wrap them individually with parchment paper or small bags. This can stretch your cookies shelf life to two weeks!
Another way of storing your sugar cookies is by storing the cookies in layers in a pan or dish. Separate the layers with wax paper or plastic wrap.
Using a cookie jar is not the best way of storing cookies, especially if the jar is opened frequently or it’s not airtight.
Also, be sure to keep your sugar cookies out of direct heat. Cool places are the best- such as cupboards or pantries.
There are multiple other ways to keep cookies fresh. You can even do so by freezing them and thawing them properly, so that they still taste fresh and delicious and not stale.
So go ahead, and make those Pretty Petals! (Although we don’t think there will be any leftovers to store!)
