Get kids outdoors by inviting them to make their own fort! They’ll not only create a cool place to hang outside of the house but also work on those engineering skills!
You’ll Need:
- Clothesline or Wire
- 2 Queen Size (or your choice) Sheets
- Heavy-Duty Clothespins
- Stuffed Pillows
- Blankets
Step 1: Secure Your Line
Instruct kids to help find two sturdy objects you can secure your clothesline or wire to. Ideally, you should tie the ends to two trees. If this is unavailable, you could use one tree and a railing, a deck and a fence, or even two poles you stick into the ground.
Step 2: Pin Your Sheets
After securing your clothesline, have children open up the two sheets and help attach a long edge of each to the clothesline using clothespins.
Step 3: Set Up a Blanket
Let kids lay a blanket on the ground underneath the clothesline and sheets to form the fort “ground”.
Step 4: Make Your First Wall
Have kids grab either one of the sheets and pull the bottom to meet the edge of the blanket. This will form a tent-like wall. Place stuffed pillows on the inside to hold the sheet in place.
Step 5: Make Your Second Wall
Repeat step 6 with the other sheet.
